Child Protection
First Nations Child Protection Services are designed to balance the private interest of individuals and their families
against the overriding need to make sure that the health and safety of children are safeguarded.
Support Services are offered to child protection families such as:
• Parenting Sessions
• Babysitting
• Head Start
• Day Care
• Support Groups
• Life Skills etc…
• Respite/Relief Care etc…
Intake
This service provides efficient and effective Child and Family services to the Eel Ground community. Child and Family Services must be able to identify, evaluate and refer legitimate requests for services
to appropriate resources within and outside the community.
Adoption Services
Adoption is a service provided to families that ensure legal permanent placement of children in care. This is done, either through (A) Family Services Act of New Brunswick (Regular) or (B) Registrar Adoption
Unit Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (Customary Adoption).
Family Support Services
First Nations Family Support provides services to assist the healthy development of community members or to help resolve
a variety of interpersonal or family conflicts. The goal in delivering family
support is to resolve internal family conflicts, terminate unacceptable behavior by a family member, identify family objectives,
assist the family in achieving these objectives, and/or contribute to the maintenance, stability and overall well being of
the family.
Adult Protection
Adult protection is a program with the responsibility to provide services to adults who are disabled or elderly and
who are abused, or of in danger of being abused. The provision of services is
crisis oriented and is usually short term. The adult protection program recognizes
that all adults have the inherent right to live his/her life according to his/her own wishes.
Family Home Support
Family Home Support Services are offered to promote, maintain, strengthen or restore the well being and the ability
of individuals and or families and assist them to function as independently as possible.
Head Start
The Head Start program is an intervention program, which serves both parent and child.
• The program is center-based and also includes home visits by staff; parents are expected to participate in
the program.
• It assists children with physical, emotional, cognitive and social delays.
• Assists parents in understanding, acquiring, and implementing appropriate parenting, and other life skills.
• Child and Family Services frequently refer families through this program.
Child In Care Services
Is a program that provides services to children that cannot remain in the legal care of their parents due to temporary
parental incapacity or special needs of the child. Once the child is in legal
care, Child and Family Services has the responsibility to meet the child’s emotional, spiritual, medical, mental and
educational needs. Children enter a childcare status through a temporary and
permanent agreement with the parent(s) or a temporary or permanent order through the courts.
Foster Home Services
The Foster Home program provides services to children who are in care of the minister of Child and Family Services,
and by individuals who open their doors to children who cannot be maintained by the natural family environment. These homes can be approved as alternative (regular) childcare or provisional placement. The application process includes having:
